Creative Movement
This class is designed for our youngest dancers starting at 2 1/2 years of age. It combines creative and imaginative excercises, basic tumbling, with an introduction to ballet. This class helps in the development of balance, coordination, musicality, and creatitivity, in a fun, loving environment.
Hip-Hop
Hip-hop evolved in 1970's as part of the hip-hop music culture. Early development of this dance form was, popping, locking, and breaking. It has grown through out the years into many styles, soft or smooth, jazz funk, krump, and freestyle. Hip-hop is a fun up beat energetic class, which combines street moves with technical jazz elements.
Combination Classes
At BSDA we combine ballet, tap, and acrobatics in our beginner classes to introduce our students to some of the basic forms of dance. During each weekly 1 hour class students will learn basic technique and proper vocabulary in each discipline while developing strong skills.
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. It has its own French vocabulary and takes years of serious training to master. Ballet technique teaches body placement, alignment, flexibility, grace, and strength. Once a dancer attains a certain level they will be recommended by their teacher for pointe work for increased development.
Sing, dance, and act like a Broadway Baby! Taught by Walt Disney Co. Production veteran and Actors Equity member Lisa Leonard. Students will experience what it takes to be a "Triple Threat" learning techniques in singing, acting, and dancing. This class provides students with new challenges and fun every week. Bring your talents and enthusiastic attitude, and leave with all kinds of star quality!
Flamenco
Students will learn the foundation of flamenco, technique, turns, footwork, combinations and choreography. A variety of rhythms and styles of the dance form including traditional flamenco, modern flamenco and classical spanish dance will be introduced. Known for it's expressive use of arms, emotional intensity and proud carriage this form of dance is a true treasure.
Tap
Metal plates called "taps" are attached to the ball and heel of shoes. Sounds are made by hitting a hard surface in rythmic patterns by making specific movements with the feet.
Jazz
Dancers are taught proper technique in various movements such as kicks, jumps, leaps, isolation movements, and turns. A strong technical foundation enables a dancer to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is the fusion ballet, jazz, & modern techniques. Lyrical is a contemporary dance form developed in the late '80's. It uses dance movements and emotions to interpret the lyrics. Being enrolled in ballet and jazz also is recommended for this class.
Modern/Contemporary
Modern dance is a relaxed, free style dance form in which emotions and moods are used to design steps with a deliberate use of gravity. Contemporary dance draws on techniques and methods found in modern, lyrical, and ballet as well as new movement departing from classical dance techniques altogether. We recommend students to be enrolled in ballet.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics is floor tumbling. Students develop flexibility, agility, balance, strength, and contortionist skills. Tumbling skills start with the basic rolls, cartwheels, handstands, etc. as students progress more advance movements will be taught such as handsprings, aerials, back tucks, etc.
Cheer-Funk
This class is designed for those wanting to audition or those involved in cheerleading, dance, or drill teams. It combines jazz and hip-hop technique.
